Lost and found

I’ve tried to be social.

* I was at Ward Prayer last night (which is an LDS/BYU oddity that deserves more blog attention), but it was poorly attended.
*Munch ‘n’ Mingle had a good turn out, but I found myself standing in the living room with a forced grin, unable to elbow my way into any of the numerous conversations around me that just wouldn’t let up.
*Attendance at Family Home Evening (FHE) once peaked at six, but is holding a steady 4.5 average out of a possible 32.
*I’ve struck up conversations with people on the bus but never seem to see the same people again despite the fact that we’re all coming from and going to the same locations at relatively the same times.
*I’ve tried to engage in conversation in class, but the instructors don’t seem to like that much and most people don’t seem that interested in talking.

It’s really good that I have all this spare time to adjust the calibration on my printer – really, I’m glad I have the time to be able to do this most important task – but I’m getting awfully sick of sitting around in my bedroom.

So I have a plan.

I’m going to host a LOST party. No, we won’t dress up like plane crash survivors stranded on a desert island. We’re just going to watch LOST. It’s starting up this Wednesday and I’m excited to see it. I’m sure others are too. Why not come be excited together?

My roommate just bought a 32″ High-Definition Liquid-Crystal Display Television (or HDLCDTV). He’s got a sound system that probably can’t be beat by anyone in The Cove. What better place to enjoy the LOST-y goodness?

At first I was going to invite everyone in the Ward. Then I realized, “What if all 192ish of them come? What if half of them come? What if even 25% of them come?” I love my apartment, but it just can’t hold that many people. So I’m going to invite the 32 who should be going to my FHE group. I don’t think they’ll all come (they better not all come!) but there should be enough to make it enjoyable. Plus, if I say “bring a friend”, hopefully this thing won’t be a bust.

Then maybe next week I can do it again and invite more people.

Before long the whole Ward will be craving their LOST fix!

Then they’ll have no choice but to meet me! The social network in the Ward will be forced to adapt to the entrance of an influential figure and I will become a nucleus of social activity!!!! AhhHAHAHAHahahaha……..

Or something like that.
