So athletes don’t feel bad

High School football is changing in Connecticut.

Seems the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has decided that coaches whose teams win by more than 50 points are worth of suspension.

The new policy to suspend coaches who don’t reign in their teams in intended to promote sportsmanship and keep the losing team from feeling bad!!

Is that what it’s coming to? Are we really there?

Shoot, if the team is losing by 50 points you know they’re about ready to give up anyway. It’s that much easier for the winning team to keep racking up the points, and now we’re telling them they can’t put their all into their game.

Once a team gets into the 44-point-lead range, how is a coach supposed to coach the offense? “Well, guys. Get in there and throw the ball around for a while. Remember to keep good form, just like we practiced this week. But don’t score a touchdown! I can’t be suspended again. Shoot. Score for all I care. I like the vacation time.”

What if your team gets 50 points ahead in the first half. Do you let them score another hoping the underdogs will pull it together? What if you lose track of your lead and get 51 points ahead? Does the defense back off and let the other team score? Does the offense start handing off to the other team?

“Look, Anderson. We’ve got 2 minutes to get those lousy Pathers 14 more points or else I’m stuck staying home with the wife. Are you the man for the job?! Do you have it in you?!”

Good thing Connecticut is small and this won’t affect too many High Schools.
