The rise of the iPod

So, I was walking down the sidewalk of the Shops at La Cantera on this misty February afternoon going with Jessica to look for some new shoes for her. We kinda missed our turn-off (twice) to go do some other stuff … so it was shopping by default.

I had totally forgotten about this Apple Store, but I’ve been wanting to come and check out the new Intel iMacs and MacBook Pros.

So we’re walking down the sidewalk and I hear a passerby say, “Hey, let’s go to iPod”, and gesture in the direction of the Apple Store.

I have to say … I was caught off guard. I mean, I know the iPod has been the saving grace of Apple, but I didn’t know it had come to define Apple. Surely people know that Apple makes other things beside the iPod. Especially these days when Apple is making the switch over to the Intel Core Duo chip.

So the iPod is a cultural icon … and apparently it has even grown to dwarf even Apple
