02.17.06Trailer Trouble
When Eric and I drove here to Texas we towed a trailer with us. That trailer was a source of frustration and now it looks like it has caused a bit more trouble.
After we unloaded our stuff into the office building we tucked the trailer into a nice, out-of-the-way spot in the back parking lot. The building superintendant said it would be fine there.
Whenever I went around back to take out the trash, or if all the spots up front were filled, I saw that trailer sitting all alone and was reminded of all that it took to get it here. Boy that was a pain.
Yesterday I went out to the parking lot to attach the new license plate to the trailer. It was brand new and had been cruising by with a temp plate up until now. When I got to the lot I found the trailer was gone.
I called property management and they claimed they didn’t even know their was a trailer there at all, but they sure didn’t have it towed. So I prepared myself to call the police department and report it missing … and that involved called my head office back in Downey to see about getting some plate numbers from their records.
With numbers collected I surfed over the the SAPD web site to find the telephone number, but what caught my eye was a link refering to impounded vehicles. I decided to check it out. They have a neat search feature where you can put in license plate or VIN numbers and see if they have your vehicle. They had my trailer. They wanted about $750 to let it out.
Time to call work again.
Now, a day later, the story is starting to become a little more clear. The police picked up the trailer on Jan 9th (yeah, over a month ago). They say it was in the middle of Chambers Street which is the street that runs along side the office complex. It’s uphill a bit, so there’s no way the trailer could have ended up there without someone taking it there.
Someone tried to take our trailer.
So my office is overnighting me some paperwork and a big fat check so I can pull out the trailer tomorrow. As of right now the boss wants to send me home and have someone else take my spot. Their going to make the final decision on Monday … and Mark is going to try and talk him out of it. I pray that Mark is successful. I want to go home and see my friends and all … but not right as things with Jessica are going so well. I’m not ready to leave that yet.
I don’t know how a month went by without me noticing the trailer was gone. Has it been a month since I last went back to empty the trash? Did I not notice the trailer missing last time I was back there? Having the VIN number and the temporary plates, why did the police not try and contact us regarding the trailer? These are things I don’t know and I have no answer for. I know I’m to blame, but I don’t feel 100% responsible.
This weekend could be my last here in San Antonio, and I’ll be too worried to enjoy it.
